Planning a party? Top 10 things to consider:

  1. Do you have a theme?
  2. How many people are coming?
  3. What happens at the party?
  4. Where will the party be held?
  5. What kind of food options are provided (by whom)?
  6. What kind of budget do you have?
  7. How long will the party or event last?
  8. Are there enough parking spaces?
  9. Are there enough bathrooms?
  10. What about entertainment?

Party hire companies come in all shapes and sizes – here are a few ways to make sure you’re choosing a quality provider:

  1. Call the service provider and discuss your event, a reputable service provider can offer you a quote either over the phone or, in many cases, for larger rental orders via email, fax or some type of machine.
  2. Check that your service provider is licensed. Ask if they are, and check with your state’s department of corporations to see if the service provider is actually a legitimate business. Many people only offer part-time or second income to party hire – if your event is important to you, you’ll want to make sure you contract with a professional, full-time, event or party hire company.
  3. Ask to see the company’s certificate of insurance. Many of the smaller part-time companies and some of the larger rental companies do not carry insurance. You need to make sure you are doing business with a legitimate service provider that has insurance to protect you, them and your guests from any unexpected accidents or incidents.
  4. Get an invoice + service contract. Sign it, date it and return the contract to the company. Without a signed contract, you probably don’t have one. Remember to read your invoice and contract carefully – if you don’t check that all the products in your party order are on the invoice, don’t be surprised if something doesn’t make it to your event…
  5. Check the date, time, contact information and location of the event in the contract/invoice. Any information like this can cause big problems if it is incorrect. On the day of the event, you want the correct information for the invoice, as it is used by the party rental company to get to your location. The wrong address combined with the wrong phone number can create a nightmare…

Regardless of what you rent for your party, it’s important to follow the list above.
